The creativity of the Icelandic band múm may be described in different ways. One may remember Bjork and Sigur Ros or the music tradition of Iceland as a whole. múm’s music is a perfect example of what a typical Icelandic recording should sound like. Breathtaking landscape design. Childish and girlish voices full of mystery. Ingratiating magic of simple things. Eleborate work with electronic beat in the field of melodoc folk. An absolute feeling of magic with no evil - like playing quiet games around sleeping people. This may be illustrated by the title of the song “We Have A Map Of The Piano” from the album “Finally We Are No One” (2002). There are only some songs where piano is used, but the feel of a close examination of small details through a magnifying glass is always present.
Múm has existed since 1997, and it hardly seems a surprise to anyone that, according to the musicians, the name of the band means absolutely nothing. Officially, there is the ‘classical’ múm, where, apart from Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, two sisters, Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir, also belong. The sisters left the band long ago.
Múm have already played in Russia. This time they are going to present their album, released last summer, “Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know”.
