02.07.2004 KMFDM (USA) @ Port club

ImageTheir career spanning over 20 years alt. rockers KMFDM has made quite a journey from a band claiming from the Paris underground scene with a small but devoted fan base to American chart topping monsters. They have worked with Adrian Sherwood (Nine Inch Nails and The Cure) and performed with the likes of Einsturzende Neubauten, The Young Gods, Borghesia and Ministry. The name of the band - KMFDM - a German acronym for 'Kein Mitleid Fur Die Mehrheit' ('no pity for the majority') has seen many an interpretation including infamous 'Kill Mother F***ing Depeche Mode'. Their style has been self-defined as an ultra-heavy beat, and when playing live KMFDM crank up a powerful fusion of dance, heavy metal, alt. and industrial rock with Sascha Konietzko's manifesto raps and vocal support from Luccia, leaving no punter unimpressed.

26.06.2004 Natasha Atlas (UK) @ Tinkoff restaurant

ImageNatasha Atlas has established as a singer with critically-acclaimed ethno-electronic acts such as Fun'Da'Mental and Transglobal Underground, also belly-dancing for the former. Natasha's music is a multi-layered beast of sweet Asian schtick mixing ornamental elements with European club beats and French chanson. Highly professional producers and musicians such as Brian Higgins who is responsible for Sugababes' 'Round Round' and Cher's 'Believe' success and Mike Nilsen, who has worked with Jamiroquai and Underworld lend Natasha a hand with recording. Her live shows are a mixture of belly-dancing, spicy hovering voice and an incredibly well-crafted musical fusion.

01.06.2004 Kraftwerk (Germany) @ Yubileiny Sports Palace

Image In the early seventies Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider created a brand new electronic sound and subsequently changed the face of electronic music forever by founding Kraftwerk. Their live shows have become a rare treat during last 10 years, so that's way their Saint-Petersburg show was quite a unique experience. Old hits and tracks from the latest 'Tour de France' album went together with a mesmerizing video mix and an impressive light show. Static robo-like four-piece dressed in identical formal black suits was operating its laptops putting on such an energy-charged show that not all 'live' bands manage to.

19.05.2004 RZA (USA) @ Port club

Image RZA aka Rizza, a key member and an inspiration behind Wu-Tang Clan, is considered to be one of the most influential and legendary hip hop artists ever. His career boasts the production of Cypress Hill records and numerous collaborations with a whole string of hip hop artists including Snoop Dogg, NAS, Busta Rhymes and Notorious BIG. RZA's performance in Saint-Petersburg, a part of his world tour, was backed by Cilvaringz crew, vocals by Beretta 9 and DJ Suicide. Support came from the best Russian hip hop act 'Kasta' with their very own DJ Hobot behind the decks.
The show they put on was so literally 'hot' that some over-excited young female fans rushed to the stage keen to undress, with RZA and other members of his crew cheering them up.

23.04.2004 Zimpala (France) @ Tinkoff restaurant

Image  All recent acid-jazz festivals in Montre have been dominated by Zimpala's performances. Their style is impossible to define and their musical preferences are unpredictable and eclectic. With lead singer Naomi cat-walking across the stage, gorgeous Anton strumming his guitar, and a rhythm-section of thuggishly looking bass player Arno and percussionist Jill providing the groove for the quartet, Zimpala sounds and looks like a hypnotic maelstrom, which drags you under and doesn't let go.
