On the threshold  of the Cinematic orchestra concert people asked each other: “Who is going to see a legend?”. Both Moscow and Saint-Petersburg were looking forward to see The Cinematic Orchestra, the artists of the cult English label Ninja Tune and authors of numerous ideal soundtracks. Written music to a great movie «Man with a movie camera» by Dziga Vertov.  The Cinematic Orchestra with J. Swinscoe as  leader were identified as young classics of new jazz mixed with the broken beat. At their Russian shows the band played not only well-known songs but also  new material, the official release of which is set up only for the beginning of March, 2007. A specific revelation was an etude from «Весна священна» by Stravinsky, which in the interpretation of The Cinematic Orchestra was opened from unknown side. A lot of guests of the show (especially the female part of the audience) found Patrick Watson, a new vocalist, the best new addition to the band. His voice referred to numerous musical sources, adding an amazing depth and sensuality to every song.

For the first time in its history Light Music presented the audience with a theatrical project. The spirit of new drama and improvisation took place on the stage of Molodejniy theatre

The authors claimed that the last performance of “Oxygen” took place in Saint-Petersburg on purpose because it was also first shown with a great success in this city. Thus, “Oxygen” accomplished a symbolic circle during which its success traveled along with it.

One of the guests of the Torpedo Boyz concert, which took place in Ekaterinburg, claimed that she had never seen such a performance in Tinkoff; during which in spite of the fact that was seeing the band for the first time, the entire audience jumped and screamed in front of the stage. This girl also must have seen them live for the first time because, those who have been to their live concerts know not to be surprised by anything they see, having already experienced the atmosphere of naughty craziness and endless fun that accompanies this band everywhere! Serving crazy funky cornucopia of sounds for desert and the combination of powerful bass lines and texts sounded in almost all over the world languages as the entree, hot torpedo guys rocked the dance floor more and more with every new song.

Following a good tradition of expanding of scenic boundaries from Saint-Petersburg and Moscow to other big Russian cities, Big Boss Man went on a tour to Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, and Ufa. As the musicians mentioned, they not only really enjoyed playing their concerts in these cities but also were happily surprised by the audience. The guys from  Big Boss Man not only satisfied the audience’s expectations, but exceeded them by showing what real live guitar drive is. Few of the audience could keep from dancing. After the show the band spoke with the audience and gave autographs. Both a significant amount of good responses, and the warm and positive atmosphere during the concert assure us that people are looking forward to the concerts like those and think about them with a smile on their faces afterwards.

The only thing that residents of Moscow and Saint-Petersbourg had left to be indignant about was the fact that Nouvelle Vague’s two Russian concerts took place in Ural-Siberian and not the two European capitals of Russia. This band, beloved by romantic eccentrics, performed songs from their new album, Band a Part. During the set, the audience could not believe their luck as Nouvelle Vague, which seems to be at the peak of their popularity now, appeared on the stage in all their touching beauty. The band- consisting of a violoncellist, a guitarist and two amazing female vocalists- started the show with their own songs and only in the second part of the concert they performed their well-known covers. Those lucky beggars who had a chance to attend the show say that the most pleasant thing was the feelings evoked by the combination of something real, warm and vivid and real professionalism which can be achieved only when music becomes not only an interesting profession but a way of life to an artist.

A nice Spanish trio, which tours wildly all around the world from London and Tokyo to Johannesburg and New York, was touring around Russia this autumn. The band visited Kazan, Ufa and Sochi where they, as always, rocked the dance floors  with their impetuous energy. Three crazy DJs literally made the audience dance crazy.  After The Pinker Tones concerts the audience said that if all the electronic music had been so explosive and cheerful, everybody would have turned into the happiest and disorganized group of  people, a long time ago.

If you still think that everybody can крутить пластинки and that DJ’s sets are not live music, you simply have not seen DJ Marс Hype & Jim Danloop live. Their performances are  fascinating shows, made by two people who, at first sight seem like complete opposites. While one of them is a virtuoso of the sound evoked from constantly changing vinyls, the other took that sound and used his keyboards to stretch it even further.  What results is an original mix-improvisation filled up with hip-hop, groove and ironic funk.  Those who attended their concerts, which took place in Ekaterinburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, had a chance to appreciate their art and  to dance.

 It's quite rare that a band can stay as interesting and fresh throughout their entire career. Sparks is like a good wine, they just keep getting better with age. Sparks consists of two people who created a look all their own; their own unique aesthetic and spirit. Their first show in Saint Petersburg was extremely energetic and eccentric.  Their new material was dynamic and fresh, and they managed to maintain a high level energy throughout their one and a half hour set.  That’s why everyone was amazed that they could surprise their fans with extraordinary original music for many long years.

Gender ID are a young, but already extremely popular band from Saint-Petersburg with a charismatic front man and a very London sound that made for an ideal continuation of the evening. Their show is incredible mix of live sound, crazy dancing and provocative texts. These guys show you that rock’n’roll is not just alive, but that it has its best times right here and now. This band held their own against the background of many famous and well-know foreign bands, and added a brand new, youthful energy to the festival that impressed the public and musical critics with a fresh genuine sound and bright performance.

This French musician, known all over the world as Electronicat, performed live shows in the most exotic places over the last few years. This summer the principal figure of European electro clash finally came to Saint-Petersburg to present his latest album. Certainly it was a real present for all the live electronic music lovers. On the stage Fred was all alone playing on all the different kinds of instrument, it seemed that there was a real electronic orchestra. He was playing distortion on guitar, manipulating electronic samples and a rhythm–machine at the same time. His music was so hot and energetic that very soon the venue was filled with dancing people and there was no space for all new-comers.
